Patty Horn is currently serving as Director of the Teacher Induction Program at Northern Arizona University (TIP@NAU). Prior to joining Northern Arizona University, Dr. Horn was Dean of the College of Education at Grand Canyon University, Phoenix, Arizona, for 22 years. During her tenure at Grand Canyon University, Dr. Horn also served as Director of Teacher Education and Placement, Chairman of the Department of Education and Psychology, Director for Field Services, as well as Professor of Education.
She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from the University of Oklahoma, a Master of Arts in Elementary Education from Northern Arizona University, and a Doctorate in Education from Arizona State University.
Dr. Horn's professional interests have been reflected in projects and publications with special emphasis in the areas of teacher certification, international education, and science education. She has been a frequent speaker on topics pertaining to teacher standards and teacher empowerment. Patty is devoting her time to designing authentic assessments for pre-service teachers and accountability for teacher preparation programs.
Dr. Horn has traveled to Tunisia, Kazakhstan, Guin-Lin, and Tibet to establish Teaching English as a Second Language programs, graduate exchange programs as well as cultural experiences. She was the director for an Eisenhower Partnership Grant that led to the publication of math/science lesson presentations for Arizona teachers.
Dr. Horn has been recognized as the Distinguished Higher Education Administrator and as a Plank Holder of the Arizona Alliance for Math, Science, and Technology Education. She was acknowledged as Outstanding Contributor to Teacher Education in Arizona, the Environmental Educator of the Year as well as the Distinguished Professor of the Year.
Dr. Horn served as President of Arizona School Administrators and Past President of the Higher Education Division. She was President of the Arizona Science Teachers, President of the Arizona Association of Colleges for Teacher Education, and Vice-Chair of the Arizona Commission for Postsecondary Education. She has also served on the Board of Directors for the American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education.
Patty lives in Surprise with her husband, Ronnie, a retired high school assistant principal and football coach, her two children and two grandchildren.
