Time provided for support activities for new teachers, including new teacher seminars, model lessons by mentors, observations and feedback.

Districts should allow time for new teachers to attend seminars, work with mentors to analyze their students’ work, and to observe experienced teachers during the work day; requiring such activities outside school hours can be too demanding on novice teachers (Arends & Regazio-DiGilio, 2000; Stansbury & Zimmerman, 2000).
Mentors should also be given time to model lessons in beginning teachers’ classrooms, or to observe the new teachers (Arends & Regazio-DiGilio, 2000; Stansbury & Zimmerman, 2000).
